Designing Custom FlexForms for your Workflow

  • The best first step is to determine what process your FlexForm will follow.
  • Consider whether you’re simply designing an on-line form to support an already successful process, if there is a need to improve the process, or if the process needs to be developed from scratch.  Because the form supports the workflow, it is important to understand the process and how users will interact with the form when following the process.
  • Process mapping can be quite helpful at these early stages, as well as mocking up a potential approach in a text document and sharing that early prototype with those who will ultimately use the form to ensure alignment.

Working in the FlexForm Configurator

When you first access the FlexForm Configurator, you'll see something like this.  It details all of the current FlexForms you're working with and allows you to create new ones.

Once you access either an existing or new FlexForm, you'll be presented with the ability to edit the form:

Give the FlexForm a name, a description and while working on it, keep it in draft mode.  Once it becomes Available, editing will be very limited.  The General Guidance will appear to those using the FlexForm and should provide clear instruction.

With each of the 80 configurable fields, there are several options for field type.  These fields support even the most demanding processes.

*FlexForm fields can’t be re-ordered, so the experts recommend leaving a blank field or two between each field you use. It will be transparent to the users, but give you the flexibility to deal with process changes and enhancements.

Once you're satisified with the FlexForm, preview it to see how the fields are ordered for your users.  To make it available within Innovation Central, simply follow the same steps as outlined in FlexForms.
